Making Meaning: A Collage Symposium
July 22-24, 2026
The Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts, Poughkeepsie, NY
Making Meaning: A Collage Symposium is a three-day convening organized by Cut Me Up founder and director Andrea Burgay and artist Monica Church. The three-day program brings together artists, curators, publishers, historians, and collage practitioners for presentations, workshops, exhibitions, and conversations exploring how meaning is constructed and reimagined through collage.
Joining us for the symposium are Cut Me Up guest curators, including—Craig Deepen Auge, Todd Bartel, Katie Blake, and Teri Henderson—as well as many artist contributors to the magazine.
The symposium will open with a keynote by Dr. Freya Gowrley, author of Fragmentary Forms: A New History of Collage, and will include exhibitions across the Hudson Valley and a book fair featuring artist books and collage publications, including Cut Me Up, amongst others.
The symposium is accompanied by Transforming Collage: Hudson Valley, a related series of public exhibitions that we have organized across multiple venues in the region.
