Making Meaning is a three-day symposium, from July 22-24 at the Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts in Poughkeepsie, NY. Organized by Cut Me Up founder and director Andrea Burgay with artist Monica Church the symposium will explore new perspectives on collage history and current approaches to curating, publishing, and making. Through presentations, workshops, exhibitions, and a book fair, the symposium brings together artists, curators, publishers, and historians to examine how meaning is constructed, disrupted, and reimagined through collage practices.

The Transforming Collage: Hudson Valley exhibition series will extend these ideas into public spaces in collaboration with venues across the region. The series brings the concepts and conversations of the symposium into dialogue with broader audiences and material practices beyond the conference itself.

The symposium expands upon many the questions explored in Cut Me Up: how images are assembled, disrupted, and reinterpreted through multiple voices and contributions. Many symposium presenters, artists, workshop leaders, and participants have been involved with Cut Me Up as guest curators and participating artists. .
